ITGS HL Exercise 3.2 - Telelearning

Telelearning takes place through the use of computers and the internet. It has been applied in a number of areas with varying degrees of success. It is clear that telelearning does not work for everyone in all situations and that teacher directed learning is still the ideal situation.

In this exercise you should explore one of the following areas of telelearning:

  • isolated and remote areas for K-12 learning
  • online university degrees
  • education of inmates at prisons
  • encouraging the elderly to get involved in online communities

You may use

  • popular search engines such as Google
  • the online magazines for our subject area at the Senior Library Gateway
  • ProQuest

Create a 

  • PowerPoint presentation approximately 5 minutes in length where you answer the following questions and 
  • a paper copy of your full answers - to be emailed to Mr. Love before next class

The presentation should cover:

  1. Introduce the specific area of telelearning. What is its purpose? (3 marks)
  2. Describe the equipment needed (hardware and software). (4 marks)
  3. Describe the main advantages and disadvantages to this area of telelearning. (4 marks)
  4. Evaluate under which conditions this form of telelearning works best and works worst. (4 marks)

Total - 15 marks

PowerPoint presentation should

  • 5 minutes or less (1 mark)
  • 5-8 slides in length (1 mark)
  • Contain at least 2 images (2 mark)
  • Consist of short statements and not paragraphs (2 marks)
  • Be of a sufficiently large font size that it is readable from the back of the classroom (1 mark)
  • Presentation skills (3 marks)
    • Presentation should be interesting, entertaining somewhat
    • No reading of work off slides
    • Clearly spoken - not too fast
  • Bonus point if you can hook your laptop up to the projector without help

Total - 10 marks

Grand total - 25 marks
